What it's about

E100 Challenge - A message from Clare Urry

Having been unable to go to Church on Sunday 2ndJanuary,  I decided to read Revd Jo’s sermon on the All Saints Web site.  Jo’s challenge about Bible reading really made me think, but as with most of us it slipped to the back of my mind until a friend  dropped the link and the  E 100 leaflet through my door.

Why don’t I read the Bible more?  I enjoy the readings at Church services.  When I go to Church in France I normally follow the reading in a French Bible and then during the sermon, which I usually cannot follow as it is in patois, I read the lessons in English.  In England I usually re read the lessons from the link supplement.

As a young person I used to read sections of the Bible, usually the Gospels and at school I studied many parts of the Bible.  The Bible was discussed and argued about between my Father and myself.  Reading that leaflet I realised that it was a long, long time since I had read the Bible properly.  Am I among friends?  Can you admit to the same?

The leaflet sets us alternative targets.  They are rather daunting for those of us who are fairly bad at New Year resolutions.  Read 100 Bible passages in 100 days?  I don’t think so.  Perhaps I could manage 20 weeks or perhaps 6 months – that allows me a few days slack.  Plan a certain time of day for my reading?  In our retired household no two days are the same but I do insist on meals at approximately the same time so perhaps I could do it with my coffee at 10.30.  I know the importance of having a set time for study from doing my OU degree.  I will try for coffee time.

To help me keep going I will read my E100 with??  That is where you all come in.  If I know everyone else is doing it then I will keep at it.  Let us see if we can keep going until the end of January at least.

If you don’t have a Bible to hand or you are finding the translation too old fashioned or if you find the Bible you have always used has too small print, you can find all the readings on the internet.  Just Google “Bible” and you will find Bible Gateway.  Click on Bible passage look up and you will have it all.  If the print is still too small then at the bottom right of the screen is a magnifying glass.  Click on that and you can increase the size to your own needs.

I’ve just read my third passage – help me keep going.
