From the Reader - August 2011

Dear Church Family, I have just returned from a trip to the Zoo with my husband and my youngest granddaughter. We went on a double decker bus, but the car would have been better. I did have some misgivings about all those hills they have there now, but armed with a walking stick, I adopted my 'I can manage' stance and off we went. I did enjoy the day, but I learned some facts that really I wouldn't admit to before. I am getting on a little bit (only a little bit!) and I just can't and shoudn't adopt the 'I can manage' stance so readily. I should, more often, allow people to help when they offer. I think of how our faith teaches us that we should love our neighbour, which basically means look to your neighbours' well being. If we don't allow other people to do things for us, are we stopping them from keeping the faith? I did enjoy looking at God's creations and I did get really tired walking the hills, even with my walking stick. I tried to smile sweetly and give thanks when people politely made way for me to walk unimpeded and, as I hobbled on to the bus to come home, I thanked God that He had given someone the great idea of bus passes for people like me who try to cling selfishly to their independence at all costs. It's good news that Stephen came through his operation so well, and we than the Lord for that, and pray that He will continue the healing so that Stephen will soon be fit and well. Wishing you all happy holidays and may God surround you with his love. Avril |
